This man had it rough.
As reported by The Official Website of Mark Twain, our very own US humorist and writer experienced significant losses and setbacks beginning at an early age. It's no wonder he offered us such witticisms.
Why do I say this? He seemed to understand the notion: "Tragedy is comedy plus time."
However, one of his more somber quotes is exquisitely timely: "A lie can travel halfway around the world while the truth is putting on its shoes."
Now more than ever it's imperative to take one's time to know your truths whether they are social, political, environmental, spiritual or economic.
As a result of a week in silent retreat at Deer Park Monastery (which explains the days of blog post silence), I can tell you that deep rumblings of exploration are going on as I examine what is true about the way I live my life. We complained (happily) about the triple digit temperatures and the howling Santa Ana Devil Winds that stirred up more than dust and sage brush. Only later did I realize that wind is nature talking to itself. Wind is change.
