A few days ago I sent a copy of the NYTimes article reporting on the NTSB calling for new bans on cell phone use to friends and family urging them to "hang up and drive." I've worked on too many cases involving serious injuries and death from distracted driving. Maybe I live in a Pollyanna world - but what's the point of being the eldest child if you can't help protect your siblings, even if they are grown adults with children of their own?
My brother, Steve, wrote back with this observation:
"It may prove to be an interesting dilemma as Americans' desire for unlimited freedom and independence expressed in the auto goes up against our love for uninhibited expression demonstrated in the numerous social media tools."
What struck me was the oxymoron of "ME" in "social media."
What are your thoughts about reconciling being in touch and being an attentive driver?
